I'm reading Loud As Hell: The Definitive Oral History of Heavy Metal and the primary focus seems to be on bands who spend their time on drugs and hedonism. Any discussion on the music and what drives its creation is essentially non-existent. A brief section on Industrial has mentioned Throbbing Gristle only in passing (the bulk of that discussion has focused on Trent Reznor and his battles with addiction). I dug out 20 Jazz Funk Greats and have gleaned more from spinning it several times this week than anything found within the pages of Jon Weiderhorn & Katherine Turman’s massive 700 page tome.
