best song punchline ever?

@robbfritz - Don't think I've heard a better one...

other thing - only recently did I actually think to myself, "Just what the hell IS a spent piece of used jet trash"? It makes sense but...?

AlicejustMay

@robbfritz - I know what you mean. But while it's tautological, saying 'used' after 'spent' acts as an intensifier (in linguistic terms). It just kind of works...

@robbfritz - and of course, that's exactly what Tom Waits would have told himself (ahem).

yeah no doubt that was exactly what he was thinking :) oh to know for real...

@robbfritz - I still want to know whether Mickey's Big Mouths are worth drinking.

there I can help you. as a dedicated Midwesterner and beer drinker, for a cheap malt liquor it's actually not bad. not that I'm exactly running out and buying it since I was 20 or anything...

@robbfritz - but it'll see you through needy times if there's nothing else, right?

@antonywaltjarv - being dim here - spotted what?

Oddbins being a British 'off-licence' or liquor store

@antonywaltjarv - there you go; me being dim. It was the 'them' that threw me. I know Oddbins. Not sure if they're in Scotland, though. May have to settle for the delicious monk's brew, Buckfast, up here. I regularly drive between England and Scotland for work, and what I especially love on the motorway is the signs on the gantries. Last one in England is (grammar notwithstanding): Bin your litter other people do. First one in Scotland is Don't do drugs and drive.

@antonywaltjarv Another thing about Scotland: in Glasgow, lots of drunks, and a real Big Brother attitude to speeding. I remember seeing a sign saying 20's plenty, and under it was a bloke completely folded in on himself clutching a can.

so I'm just over the border - in Newcastle. Oddbins used to be everywhere (inc. Scotland) but they seem to have scaled down a bit - they were at the posher end.

excellent! - the '20's plenty' signs have made their way down here now - one time I would only see them up your way.

Anyways,..back to Tom - did you ever watch his acceptance speech when he was inducted in to 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame'? It's greathttp://www.americansongwriter.com/2011/03/watch-tom-waits-rock-hall-of-fame-speech-performance/
