@solveigo@thisismymistake@d0minic@Bukowski The video is made by French installation artist Laure Prouvost - one of the four shortlisted for this year's Turner Prize - I just find it's one of the most chilling (not chilled) track / promo combinations I've seen in a long time. Utterly Orwellian.
@Bukowski Crikey - I haven't read that in decades and can't remember a thing about it now, to my shame. Working my way through a selection of books by Croatian authors at the mo.
@AlicejustMay Just shows how you can turn utterly pedestrian footage into something unsettling and foreboding. Also, how do you pronounce the name of the band? Hot rock? Hat rack?
@Bukowski Some excellent short stories by Courtney Angela Brkic (Stillness), and also a memoir by her called The Stone Fields; Our Man in Iraq by Robert Perisic; and the one I've just started is The Hired Man by Aminatta Forna.
@AlicejustMay In Search of Lost Time (General Editor: Christopher Prendergast), translated by Lydia Davis, Mark Treharne, James Grieve, John Sturrock, Carol Clark, Peter Collier, & Ian Patterson. London: Allen Lane, 2002 (6 vols). Based on the French "La Pléiade" edition (1987–89), except The Fugitive, which is based on the 1954 definitive French edition. The first four volumes have been published in New York by Viking, 2003–2004.
@AlicejustMay Yes, I ordered an "Illuminations" '12 vinyl from Amazon U.S. Estimated delivery is between Dec 3rd - 13th. Not sure why the long wait since I ordered on Nov 2nd.
@d0minic Swanns Way is a marvellous read - I recommend you read it in the newer edition too to see how it compares; the Moncreiff is far more euphemistic than the original is designed to be.x
@AlicejustMay Audio is splendid. I am in two minds about the video.It detracted from the audio for me. Turner prize nominees and indeed winners have often underwhelmed me.
@AlicejustMay I have however made detailed notes and lists as a result of the comments on this. Something I always love about your Jams are the quality comments.
@BertrandRustles How funny about the video - it mesmerised me. Thanks for the remark about the comments - I think that's so remarkable about TIMJ; the quality, variety and thoughtfulness of the conversations. And lots of fun along the way.

@AlicejustMay I think I'll stick with hat rack... :)
AlicejustMay
@thisismymistake And yes, it really is amazing how one thing can transform another so profoundly, isn't it?
AlicejustMay
@thisismymistake hat rack is a worthy option.
Bukowski
@AlicejustMay Thank you. I shall investigate. xx

@AlicejustMay @Bukowski I'm reading 'Swann's Way' by Marcel Proust at the moment and it's bloody brilliant. everyone should give it a go.
Bukowski
@d0minic One of the truly great writers. 'In Search Of Lost Time' ranks as one of the great classics and 'Swann's Way' is absolutely beautiful.
AlicejustMay
@d0minic @Bukowski are you reading the Scott Moncrieff version or the latest translation In Search of Lost Time?
AlicejustMay
And funnily, one of my all time top tracks is Illuminations by Swans Way (no second 'n', I think),

@stellakoto I'd be desperate to get out if I heard that in the womb! But fascinating that you associate it with that thought.
tilapia
Everything Mika Vainio touches is metaphorically gold and chromatically grey :-)
AlicejustMay
@tilapia What a fantastic description.
