I dig it. Panda Bear is new to me and I was wondering "what does Annie Lennox have to do with it?" until I did a Google search for "Panda Bear Lennox" and discovered it's Noah Benjamin Lennox. :)
@shiningsun2k Ha! I love Animal Collective, but he's the real mastermind behind them. Terrific recent album - Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper. If you like this, try Boys Latin - it's a cracking video:

Awesome, thanks! Hey, I HAVE seen this - you jammed it not too long ago, right? If so, the "Come To Your Senses" isn't my first foray into their music, but they are still new to me. Thanks again for the intro and the bonus link! :)
By all means, make all the recommendations you want! I certainly make my share and I really enjoy coming into great music that's new to me. Listening to the first track now.
HA! Coincidence! This very album dropped onto my doormat this morning & I've been playing on my ipod no longer than an hour ago. VERY impressed with it and Yes @shiningsun2k I recommend Animal Collectives' "Merryweather Post Pavilion" too. Go for it! :-)
@clementix My mother told me not to take recommendations from strangers. ;) I found it and saved it to my queue for tomorrow's listening. Thanks for chiming in and feel free to do so anytime you have a recommendation in the future. :)
@AlicejustMay@debutch I started listening to it a few hours ago, and honestly thought it was going to be too quirky and/or abstract for my taste with the first couple of tracks, but then a friend dropped by, so I had to break from it for a while and all four tracks I've listened to since I've come back to it are absolutely fantastic! Maybe I was just too tired earlier when I started. You might not like the comparison, but I'm getting a similar feeling to other excellent airy albums with summer
@debutch@AlicejustMay vibes like The Shins' 'Wincing The Night Away', Vampire Weekend's 'Contra' and Local Natives' 'Gorilla Manor'. I suspect I'll be coming back to this a lot this summer. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
@debutch finished it and now I'm revisiting the first two or three tracks again, which are already sounding better. Yeah, it really picked up for me starting with "Summertime Clothes", but I can tell I'm going to like the first tracks too and it really is a great album.
@shiningsun2k@debutch@clementix God, I love TIMJ - isn't it brilliant, discovering all these things together? I must revisit Person Pitch this weekend. :)
@clementix@debutch@AlicejustMay yes, it really is! Without exaggeration, TIMJ has blown any other source for music discovery or discission I've ever come across out of the water.
@shiningsun2k@debutch@AlicejustMay I completely agree. I have discovered so much great music I never ran across before through TIMJ. I am totes in love with it.
@shiningsun2k The recommendations that I have been thankful for since coming on TIMJ has been phenomenal. The only trouble is that it's pushing me towards bankruptcy! ;-)
@shiningsun2k@AlicejustMay@clementix It's my DREAM to go to San Francisco ( and New Orleans ) I doubt if I 'll ever make it but you never know, maybe one of my kids will become rich one day & buy me a ticket!....:-)
@debutch@clementix A friend I grew up with lives out in SF, so I might actually be visiting sometime in the not-too-distant future. I've never been there and New Orleans has been a dream of mine since childhood, Dave. My fantasies of seedy jazz clubs might be hard to live up to though. :)
@shiningsun2k@debutch You may find that the seedy jazz clubs of New Orleans live up to your fantasies! Drop me a message when you're coming to SF and I will make sure you get some local hugs and show you around!! I mean it! Hugs are free, although airfare is dear.
@clementix@debutch@shiningsun2k I was last in SF in '95 - can't believe that's 20 years ago! Stayed in the Tenderloin district, which was interesting. Last time I was in the US was May 2003, when I went to Chicago and - thanks to a freak spell of rubbish weather - tried to chase the sun by driving east and south (I think) to Kentucky. I remember the day I arrived in Chicago and thinking 'wow... so much warmer than grey, damp England... just what I need'. Then the following morning there was...
...a massive storm and the temperature dropped by ten degrees. I confess I sat on my hotel bed and cried. But I had a fab time. I love the vastness of America, and how you can find pretty much any kind of climate you want. It's just the best for road trips. Hey guys! That's it - let's all save up, meet @clementix in SF, and then hit the road! Me and @shiningsun2k have already made a start on the Road Trip Playlist! Yay! Stuff work and responsibilities - let's all be badass Jack Kerouacs! :)
Oh, terrible luck! I had my first warm weather vacation at the end of March, 2012, when I spent 10 days in Phoenix. I live in Kalamazoo, MI and the winters here suck (although not as much as some other places, granted), so I was looking forward to it, but we had a freakish weather spell of our own and it was 85 degrees (F) the week leading up to my vacation, while it was 60 and dreary in Phoenix, where it's always warm and never rains. Made me nervous, but the conditions flip-flopped in time.
That's a good point though - the U.S. is good for road trips in that way. I think about moving to the southwest every now and then to get free of the nasty winters and occasional tornadoes, but I'd miss the variety in weather we get here - we get all of the extremes and everything in between. It has its perks. And count me in on that road trip! Work and responsibilities are for chumps! ;D
@AlicejustMay@shiningsun2k@clementix That's it Alice, keep the dream alive!! I'll just get out my Kerouacs' "On the Road" again to get me in the mood.....bags I'm Dean Moriarty!!
Yep, my whole life with the exception of one year (2002) in Toledo. We get that a lot. Our claims to fame are Checker Cabs, Derek Jeter, and craft beer. It's bizarre seeing K'zoo pop up on this recent list of "29 cities all twentysomethings should pack up and move to". http://www.buzzfeed.com/erinfrye/twentysomething-cities#.ng9e0N9eg

@shiningsun2k Pleasure... a final recommend (at risk of sounding relentless) is Animal Collective's album 'Merryweather Post Pavilion'. xx

@shiningsun2k While we're making recommendations, I adore Panda Bear's first album after his move to Portugal, Person Pitch (2007).

@debutch @AlicejustMay Oops, I meant Vampire Weekend's self titled album.

@shiningsun2k Give it a little time. It'll come good. ( I do agree that the album seems to get better as you go along.)

speaking of squelchy, the intro to this tune on headphones left me slightly discombobulated

@juepucta! Such a great word. Not used often enough - but if it were, it would no doubt lose its discombobulatory impact :)
