Rock stars from the about 1966 onwards made it acceptable to look very different from my parents generation. Marc Bolan in particular produced a steady stream of lookalike trainee welders, electricians mates and apprentice bricklayers that were prepared to survive the taunts of their parents and workmates and push their individuality. David Bowie then made it acceptable to my teenage peer group to not only look and sound like "a poof" but to be one as well!
This album signalled not just a shift in musical tastes but a large cultural change put in motion, ironically, five years earlier when homosexuality was made legal in the UK. It was supposed to be legal but was a long way from being socially acceptable. David Bowie influenced a whole slew of young people to behave in new ways and begin to accept different expressions of sexuality. And the music and the theatrics were (are) fantastic!
another great one! this album is definitely in my top 25 all time, and damn close to my top 10. in fact, i'm planning to do a few honorable mentions between numbers 2 and 1 of my top 10 i;m doing now. ziggy stardust will surely be one of them.
i think 72 was when i found Bowie---a young mum shopping from Biba,Kensington High Street..the silver platform boots,David and all of us...he was different,matured beautifully,found his many personas....nice memories.cheers :)
@Axol it would be more healthy to make an energizing milkshake out of it. if you lick it like a kitten all day long, it still works and will keep you hydrated. that could be one reason why his skin looks so smooth 8p

PSYCHOACTIVE
when he wrote this album, his diet was milk & cocaine. what a hilarious combination 8D
Axol
@PSYCHOACTIVE Was that milk powder mixed with the coke? He should've complained to Trading Standards.
