I remember playing the album version of 'The kids' when I was in my late teens ( about '74) while my mum was in the next room . After about a minute of the sound of the kids crying, she burst in demanding that I take this "depressing" record off! "I NEVER want to hear THAT in this house again" she exclaimed! hahaha!
Minor chords in @MadameZia's tune selection reducing me to a crying marshall/marshmallow, and now this always disturbing chestnut from Louie Louie...why are you folks making me blubber like a big dumb infant?
@aHandfulOfRain That's funny, I DID first hear "Frankie Teardrop" on headphones but a so-called friend played a practical joke on me. " You must hear it at the loudest volume you can possibly take to fully appreciate the sonic bass when it gently flows in..." he said, (almost sniggering).....of course, not a WORD about the "scream"......I nearly went through the roof in shock!!...
@debutch You must have had some seriously twisted friends. Without necessarily endorsing his disdain for Frankie Teardrop (which I actually like), I always remembered Nick Hornby's advise to first-time listeners: "Do not listen alone / Take the following day off work / Experiencing the song through headphones will almost certainly lead to hospitalisation"!
@aHandfulOfRain HaWHaWHaw!! I've never heard his advice before but it's worth making a note on that!.....don't worry what my 'twisted' friends have done to me. I had been just as bad in those days when I remember some of the tricks I got up to! :-)
Love the talk about Frankie Teardrop! God, that song terrifies me to this day. Amazing song, though. Anyway, this is a really grim and great song from an amazing album. Great pick!

Great idea, indeed a masterful storyteller and a great American voice.

The "story" of Lou's that haunts me the most is the (pitch) black humour of "Harry's circumcision".....

@debutch Classic! The exact same thing happened to me with Suicide's "Frankie Teardrop". I was a headphone listener thereafter.

Super-hard to listen to this one. But a masterwork, indeed.

I love Berlin despite the fact that it can be a tough listen... I've never seen this version so thank you @Axol. Great Jam...
