I could never get into Pavement, Sonic Youth, Archers of Loaf etc. The whole 'slacker' aesthetic that involved slightly detuning your guitar and really wholeheartedly throwing yourself into giving a shit about not giving shit - it never made sense to me. On Perfect From Now On, Built to Spill took that kind of meandering, slacker song structure, vacuumed out the apathy, let it breathe and meander a whole hell of a lot more, rested a cello next to the mantel, and polished the whole thing right up. One of the best indie rock albums of the past two decades.
