It's taken me all of my 50 years worth of listening to music to learn to appreciate this kind of "music". And still it's not as if I willingly will put this on, say, on a Friday morning in June in the year, let's say, 2013. But when all is said and done and I'm taking my time, focussing entirely on the notes, I finally can see the genius that put this together. Hail, Mingus, hail Monk and... hail Dolphy. :)
@dutchzaphod Ooo, that is a lovely comment. Excellent. Don't forget Miles Davis and Coltrane plus Ornette Coleman - 'The Shape Of Jazz To Come' and Sonny Rollins - 'Saxophone Colossus'.
@dutchzaphod My Top Ten Jazz albums:-
1) Miles Davis - 'Kind Of Blue'
2) Miles Davis - 'Bitches Brew'
3) John Coltrane - 'A Love Supreme'
4) Ornette Coleman - 'The Shape Of Jazz To Come'
5) Eric Dolphy - 'Out To Lunch!'
6) Sonny Rollins - 'Saxophone Colossus'
7) Cannonball Adderley - 'Somethin' Else'
8) Charles Mingus - 'Ah Um!'
9) Thelonious Monk - 'Monk's Dream'
10) Herbie Hancock - 'Head Hunters'

@Bukowski Ah, Jazz 101. Excellent. Thanks "magister" Bukowski. As the Romans would say: "Audio, video, disco". :)
RKDarnell
Love your taste in jazz. Maybe Chet Baker is number 11?
Bukowski
@RKDarnell Possibly. I would probably have Dave Brubeck - 'Time Out' as my No. 11

This sounds like the incidental music in a 60s knockabout thriller. Fab.

For me, Edward Vesala's Lumi is always nÂș1 on my list ... and some more Mingus would be fine.

@jasonwryan would appreciate Ornette Coleman I think.
