Love the whole " Frank's wild years" album as bizarre as it is. A massive Waits fan is what I am. I would HAVE to include him on your short ( but perfect) list of post 1945 geniuses along with Frank Zappa, Nina Simone and..OK, we'll discuss this later!

Bukowski

@decarter My tentative and regularly changing definition of musical genius; someone else could not have done that.

I think you've nailed it there.

This is from Swordfishtrombone, not as well liked as the other two albums in tom's frank trilogy but the way it sets up the narrative for the next two albums is really fantastic. Underrated album, even though its still highly rated usually; lots of nuances you dont notice til later.

Great little story this, the American Ivor Cutler? Equally macabre tales...

Bukowski

@kerlmann Ah ha, yes, excellent comparison.

Beautiful. One of my all time faves by Tom. "Chimeny orange and Halloween red".

Saw the world premiere of "Frank's Wild Years" at the Briar Street Theater in Chicago in 1986. They served MIckey's Big Mouths at the bar. #bliss

@Bukowski You seem to have great taste, Tom Waits, Charles Bukowski, but trout mask replica worst album ever :)

Bukowski

@neolix 'Trout Mask Replica' requires that you must have already heard 'Safe As Milk' and 'Clear Spot' and that you must give it at least five listens before you make a judgement. "After the fifth listen I thought it was the greatest album ever made, and I still do." (Matt Groening)
