@teen@Swampy @aliasjae @MsSue_ from the mid-late 60's i believe. what you can't see that is cut off in the jam image is a sign on the wall in the upper left that says "we dedicate our latest album to all you seniors of 1968." kinda funny. they were obviously playing a high school dance or something. way too good for that. i dig the 'boogaloo' & 'shing-a-ling' but this was a different doo-wop tex-mex kinda thing that i recently discovered and is way cool.
@Clash_Presley I had overlooked that the band was from San Antonio Texas! Lots of local Mexican-American history and culture there. Thanks for the reminder but I got awfully homesick :)
@MsSue_ very cool. i was in austin for a spell at the beginning of the summer and really liked it. do they have grackles in san antonio ? anyway, not to make matters worse but there is a cd called "eccentric soul: the dynamic label" that came out recently that is all san antonio bands from the mid-late 60's. it looks promising. i might have to get it. that tex-mex soul kinda blew me away.
@Clash_Presley *hairs prickling on the back of my neck* I've been digging through the record label catalogue for the last couple of weeks, but haven't got to this album yet. I'm listening to samples now. Ooooh! This is going on my to buy list! THANK YOU!
Of course they have grackles in San Antonio. Millions of 'em. They hang out at all the drive-thru's and live on french fries, nachos and tater tots.
@MsSue_ oh, nice, will be looking forward to that jam ! i have been wanting to jam something from Los Lobos, especially their early albums but all their stuff is locked down tight on youtube. yea, they had t-shirts in austin w/a picture of a black grackle & a day-glo orange cheetos. very boisterous birds. :)
@MsSue_ haha, similar but the one i saw was a little more minimal, light gray shirt+bird+cheeto and that was about it. i think i saw it at south congress books. i couldn't find a googled image of it right off. i did find a "I Grackle Austin" facebook page though. Oh, and this http://www.storyvilleapparel.com/snap-grackle-pop-11258.html

Just checked out the song that influenced that and I realised that my friend Janie Ornelas' dad is one of the singers. Must jam it.

@teen too much of a financial liability these days, i suppose.
