I Love Juca Chaves! Listen to this new Brazilian band that combines electronic music with samba from Rio de Janeiro! http://www.thisismyjam.com/drikafcruz
I wish I could listen to this from here (here being Portugal for August), it's so great. I was able to listen to it back home before the holidays so I'm reassured that this will still be US/UK free to play. Very cool. I am not much appreciating the fact that it's one of many fab songs you can't listen to on this particular(ly lovely) site whenever you step abroad. But I do like it and would have clicked the appropriate thingy if I was actually able to hear any sound at all.
(sorry, nothing to do with the wonderful song), is Piauí the one with Teresina as state capital? I may have been there and there seem to be quite a few songs about the state from people from outside the state. Would that mean this is ironic or tongue-in cheek in português?
@belaR @Elwood Well, I am Brazilian and I think the meaning of what is written in the music I can help = D.Teresina is actually the capital of the state of Piaui, located in northeastern Brazil. However, Juca Chaves wants to speak of the beauty that is in Brazil. He says the food from other countries and cities are beautiful, but Brazilians are fond of culture and the people and do not want to miss it!
This song most likely was written when my country was in the period of military dictatorship and Juca Chaves was one of the artists who most publicly criticized the attitudes of repression.
Many artists (musicians, filmmakers, actors, directors) suffered greatly from the dictatorship, and a form of criticism was to use art as protest. Musicians like Juca chaves, Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, Tom Zé, Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Caetano Veloso in the lyrics of songs, subtly criticized the Brazilian military dictatorship. The songs are very intelligent, there is a word game where apparently has a simple meaning, when it is actually another, besides being beautiful songs!
Get to know the history of music Cálice (Goblet) of Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento is really cool! I found a video with English subtitles of this music, however I do not know if the translation this good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_icKlXbMNo
