“Czesław Niemen (1939-2004)- a composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Niemen was into music since a very young age. He would sing in a church choir and he attended a music school but was expelled after a year because he skipped classes too often. In 1958 his family was dislodged from the Eastern borderlands of Poland and then lived in several cities. Czesław again went to music school, this time in Gdańsk. There he also performed, eg in a club "Żak", singing in Polish and Spanish. Two Spanish songs were even included on his first album that came out in 1967, "Dziwny Jest Ten Świat." His first success came in 1962 when he took part in The Young Talents Festival in Szczecin. He then toured with a band Czerwono-Czarni (Red & Black), later Niebiesko-Czarni (Blue & Black). He recorded almost 20 solo albums. Niemen died of cancer in Warsaw.”
