“Even bad girls can do good things,
Even bad girls can have tender hearts,
Even bad girls can fall apart. Oh I, I'm not so transparent.
My intentions, they ain't so apparent.
There is a need always dividing me, From all the things that I've been hiding.”
Even bad girls can do good things,
Even bad girls can have tender hearts,
Even bad girls can fall apart. Oh I, I'm not so transparent.
My intentions, they ain't so apparent.
There is a need always dividing me, From all the things that I've been hiding.
Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley make up the band Tennis. The husband and wife team have once again partnered with Black Keys’ Patrick Carney who has produced their last two albums. This track comes from their most recent release, 2014’s Ritual In Repeat. The video contains a different version of the song when compared to the album. Regardless, Alaina Moore is in fine voice.

I'm gonna get weird and say that this might be one of my favorite songs ever. Of course, I love Tennis, my TIMJ name is inspired by another favorite of theirs and I love everything from the girl group stuff to the more "Abba, but darker" feel of Ritual in Repeat. I have been listening Ritual obsessively ever since it came out, but this song in particular gets played again and again. I like both the Youtube version and the album version, they both make my heart feel funny and I feel the lyrics on a personal level, particularly:
Even bad girls can do good things
Even bad girls have holy dreams
Oh I, I'm not so transparent
My intentions they ain't so apparent
And:
You know I love a good ceremony
That's why I chose matrimony
I also adore Alaina Moore's voice (and her FACE, it makes me happy) and I am so excited, because I'll be seeing them live for the first time here in a few days in Cambridge.
