London-based modern-soul group Jungle is the product of two childhood friends. They produced two singles in 2013 before signing to XL Records; those four sides were released as a 10" EP through Bandcamp that immediately sold out and began trading for astronomical prices. Pleasingly, all four wound up on their eponymous 2014 debut album. Jungle has expanded to a 7-piece live band; founders Tom McFarland and Josh Lloyd-Watson continue to go by their first initials only, in an attempt to redirect the focus away from themselves and onto the music and general aesthetic of the project. They've made one of the best R&B; albums that I've heard in recent memory. This song is one of the original four from the sold-out EP; there are songs I like more on the album, but this was my introduction to Jungle and the one that's been in my head all week. There's a definite TV on the Radio vibe here, but I prefer Jungle's soul approach.
