i am very ambigous with FZ - many many of my friends (+ my mom) in the 70s and 80s were true fans and tortured me with his often obscure sounding studio albums. But i always loved his live music. Saw him twice and each of these gigs was intergalactic mainly of his excellent choice of bandmembers and a very disciplined interaction.
On the other hand i have seen him several times really torturing his musicians, one time Vinnie Colaiuta had to play solo against a misformed delay for > 5 minutes
