Just divine.

This is the best song. The story around it, all the demos and releases and context makes it mythical in a way nothing else can touch. (I've chosen the earliest full recording I know of, from the sessions for the original Smile.) It's alarming how I'm now some uncountable years older than Brian was when he wrote this and yet I am only just "getting it."

Also, that picture, it's hard to source but was apparently taken during the recording of Smile. You can see the full thing here: http://www.analogplanet.com/upload_images/Features/The%20Beach%20Boys%20-%20The%20SMiLE%20Sessions%20-%20bw%20-%20CCapitol%20Photo%20Archives.jpg
