Just watched the Gainsbourg film from a couple of years back ('Une vie heroique') - made me smile to be reminded of so many of the tracks I used to listen to when living in France 20 years ago (had a compilation called 'De Gainsbourg a Gainsbarre' on tape, probably still have it in the loft somewhere)
I've heard this song redone by Ghost of a Sabre Tooth Tiger, but I didn't know it was a cover until today.
