I loved Talk Talk when I was a student - used to rotate between them, Lloyd Cole, Propaganda and The Smiths. Anyway... first album? Hunky Dory. Though I very nearly bought Andy Gibb's Shadow Dancing instead - only the fact that my friend bought it first prevented me. There. Not a proud admission, but honest.
So hard to remember but I suspect the first LP I bought with my own money was REM's "Green". And since I missed out on the first single discussion: "Smooth Criminal".
for me 'Green' is their last decent album @fsrlabel / i count this as first album proper, as the first record i got was the soundtrack to Back To The Future @thisismymistake
Woke up with Dum Dum Girl in my head, next jam. Love this album, this one and Laughing Stock are two of my favs. First album? I literally can't remember.
Reservoir Dogs Soundtrack was my first album. Slightly cooler than my first single - Wrestlemania by the Stars of the WWF. @LadyGulag New Adventures in H-Fi and Automatic For the People should not be dealt with so callously out of hand!
My first album was Vamo BatĂȘ Lata, by Os Paralamas do Sucesso (from Brazil), and the first foreign album I bought was Ballyhoo, by Echo & The Bunnymen. For years I didn't have much money to spend with music, so I preferred to buy compilations instead of studio albums (and then, internet came)
@thisismymistake In reply to your earlier post 'Where were you during my college years???' I'm hoping that means you were a fan of the bands I mentioned? :)

@AlicejustMay A fan of the bands you mentioned lost in a sea of Top 40-loving fellow students...

@thisismymistake How funny... that must have been a bit demoralising.

@AlicejustMay Oh you don't to hear the tales of woe of growing up in a territory controlled by a very reactionary radio station...
AlicejustMay
@thisismymistake Oh yes I do!
