One of my all time top bands. Saw them at Glastonbury - they were on early - it was my highlight. Maybe it's the sparse output - but when they release an album you know it's going to be great.
@andybartlett I've not seen them live, which is probably just as well as they can reach parts that ought to be out of reach - and no-one wants to see that happening in a public place!
@RossCampbell So many to choose from, so haunting. Have you heard Keane doing a cover of Downtown Lights that displays the beauty of the chord structure and the pain in the vocals. Paul's voice may raise your hairs and hats, but the songs do stand up.
All of the Blue NIle songs are about the same thing - that much is pretty obvious. What is unclear is what the heck that thing is exactly. I love this vagueness, the commonality that lets you put it on like a damp coat, make it yours, and go on out into the night and the city.
@daved Just traced the Keane version down, pretty good to be fair to them. Was fortunate enough to be at the opening of Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall in 1990 when The Blue Nile got the first gig, fantastic live, Let's Go Out Tonight had many tough Glaswegians reaching for the hankies, superb night

...and if anyone can sum up the music of Paul Buchanan with more erudition and skill than that, I've yet to hear it...quite brilliant...

@RossCampbell You lucky chap - I was out of the country then and missed it. Heard great things about it though - what a way to launch a venue ;)
