People talk about the Bowie/Ronson "moment" on TOTP, but for me (and maybe others of my UK generation?) it was this specific performance that was truly shocking and groundbreaking. Such a radical change from the commonplace pop groups of the time - hippies, before we had any idea what the word meant.
His deckchair/awning/pyjama bottoms fascinated me back then. Why was I wearing school greys and plain blue jeans???
And guys just did NOT have large pudding basin haircuts back then either!
