Mum and Dad had dropped me and my sister off at the gig in the morning and arranged to pick us up after it had ended. They were going to spend the afternoon and evening in Oxford. BUT - the car broke down in Milton Keynes a few minutes after they left us. No mobile phones back then. They had to sit in the car until about 11:30 that night until Mum found us after the gig. Dad was in agony with a tooth abcess.

They couldn't call the AA until we got back to them as they knew the car would probably have to be towed back to Sheffield. We finally got home about 8:00 the next morning. Was it worth it? Absolutely!

Blimey! Wonderful story, Heather. When I was reading, I figured your dad's face :-| But yes, of course was worth it.. What a gig! How lucky you had :D

@heatherrings Lovely story...THAT long in Milton Keynes! ....I think that place was always a mud bowl.

of course I meant Milton Keynes Bowl, not Milton Keynes itself

@florencevibert Hi Florence! Can you imagine how my Dad felt when he had had to sit in the car for over 12 hours with an increasingly painful face and then my sister and I eventually turned up, after the concert, absolutely covered in mud? He took it very well. He was lovely - I still miss him.

@christineb Yes, cell / mobile phones are very useful. I feel lost without mine. We used to manage though, didn't we? I was well into my teens before we got a phone, a fridge or a car. :-)

@philipnareike Yeah - it was definitely Milton Keynes Mud Bowl that day. The area in front of the stage was particularly bad. A lot of people went home without shoes, umbrellas, items of clothing and bottles etc because they left them stuck in the mud. Great gig though. :-)

@heatherrings I went to see U2 there in the 80s. It was mud pie central at the front. I remember when The Ramones came on....I thought I was gonna get sucked under never to come back up again! I remember there was people sliding down the sides of it on their bellies like they were at the winter (mud) olympics!

@philipnareike Ha ha. That sort of thing is OK when you're young. Nowadays prefer a nice upholstered chair, somewhere warm and dry. :-)

Who wouldn't want a Telecaster, a Pete Cornish custom effects board and an Echoplet unit after hearing this.they are the band that inspired us in our Third Year at school to form a band!!

@BeeBee I know there were often tensions in the band - but they made great music. All good musicians. The albums were recorded well too. I've seen them 4 times - excellent every time. :-)

Their albums are a major part of the soundtrack of my youth - I spent manya Thursday evening watching Top of The Pops with my guitar watching and learning Andy Summers' guitar parts!

Dads huh? Lovely story H. What would we have done without them, to get us out of those teen scrapes? I know mine did, several times - bless him. Good jam :-) xx

@BeeBee He had a distinctive style. I absolutely love what he does on"Bring on the night" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz1mEMiNPHQ&feature;=kp ). Mind you - the bass and drums are excellent too. :-)

@BarneyRubble Thanks. I wasn't allowed to use the studio version - was restricted. This gig was in 1979 (I think) and is a nice reminder of what the band was like at the gigs I saw in 1980.
