...although maybe the older fans think this sounds watered down compared to their earlier stuff..? Anybody like to add their 2 cents?

@hindle4 i only got into them recently but i loved their first 2 albums - this album is slightly different in style but as we all know, very few bands can keep churning out awesome material with the same sound - it goes stale after a while. i would recommend their second album - it's just phenomenal.

The big rock sound of Inhaler really took my by surprise and made me look again at a band I thought I had pigeonholed. No bad thing that.

I'm a new fan too. I'd heard of them, and I'd heard some of their older material, but it doesn't click for me like their entire new album does.

@SamTrapp Seems that I'm in the same group as @simonp and @rvleonard. It's not that I haven't listened to their first 2 albums, It's the fact that I just didn't take to them much. But Holy Fire, I like.

Not keen on the first two albums either. Very much enjoying the new one though. 'Providence' is particularly good, I reckon.

@SamTrapp @simonp @rvleonard @roundedworks @chrlsh3 @itskerryc I'm a bit omniverous. I loved Spanish Sahara, but I also freaked out when hearing Inhaler for the first time (last year). I'm very happy to announce that me and the wife got tickets for the Foals gig at the famous Paradiso venue in Amsterdam on 16 March.

@dutchzaphod that's good to hear! I thought that some of the older fans might think this was their attempt at "selling out". Evolving as a band is no bad thing when it feels and sounds natural...

@SamTrapp @simonp @rvleonard @roundedworks @chrlsh3 @itskerryc @hindle4 I saw them at Pukkelpop (Belgium) in 2010. Marvellous performance (especially Spanish Sahara), so it's safe to say I'm one of the "older" fans. At 56 I'm old in the other sense as well. Maybe that's why I'm more likely to evolve alongside the band. Sort of an experience thing. (just a wild theory, don't pay any attention to it if you do not feel so inclined). :)

@dutchzaphod I think there's definitely something in growing older along with your favourite bands. I think with Foals though, it's almost the other way round - their music is becoming more passionate, less artfully thought-through. And that can be a good thing to. Almost as if you don't need to try to hard to impress any more

@simonp I get your point. But, when all is said and done I think we can all agree that, for now, Foals are just b****y marvellous! :)

@dutchzaphod I like it when you go to a concert and the youngsters offer you a seat and call you "sir". I used to be offended. Now I just laugh and thank them.

I think that some bands just hit the right mark at the right time. Bands like the Bombay Bicycle Club and The Maccabees have made some very fine albums indeed but everything came together on their most recent albums. The same is true of Foals.

@simonp I do sometimes think that some of these bands are making art for arts sake and then forgetting to write the tune to go with it. I got that when I listened to early Foals. But with Holy Fire it has a more human level that I can get on board with. There is certainly something to be said for growing old with your favourite bands. I enjoy the fact I'm only a year younger than Alex Turner and have grown up with his music

...and will continue to do so. Genuinely excited for every new release that comes.
