@HaveACuppaTea Interesting, what adverts has it been used for?
I'm going to attempt to watch it again this weekend. Dystopia is my favourite place for a story to be set, so that wins me over straight away. Thought it was wonderfully, stylised, borrowed a lot or maybe referenced a lot of previous dystopian outings, didn't lack sympathetic characters. I look forward to giving it another view, might attempt to read up a bit or might leave that till after another viewing.......
@HaveACuppaTea .....I guess there's plenty that I missed in symbolism and themes, but well worth investing a few more hours in I think.
What do you think?
Regarding the song, I can't remember, I've definitely heard samples of it. Great film, you can definitely see instances of 'life imitating art' definitely one of the best science fiction films, still looks great visually as well. Probably need to watch it again myself. I've not read the book it's based on, have you read 'A Clockwork Orange'? One of my favourite books.
@HaveACuppaTea Ha! When I was !3, I'd forgotten about that. Do you know Burgess said he wrote that in a couple of weeks as a money making exercise. Obviously though he spent a lot of time attempting to discredit and distance himself from that work.
It was a part of our schools underground culture which included such violence porn classics as skinhead & suedehead.
I really enjoyed Dark City which takes up a Bladerunner theme of inserted memory,

@kemiladashdot You should read it again, another reason why I like it, is because it's a novella (I can be a bit lazy sometimes) that and 'American Psycho' are my favourite works of ficition. I mostly read non-fiction though but I think that's the case with most blokes. Yeah, I've seen 'Dark City' it was a while back, the bloke who did the Crystal Maze is in that isn't he? Funny enough I only really starting listening to Alan Watt last night,
@HaveACuppaTea Well i look forward to your take on AW. Since I gave you the link he's stopped doing his radio show, which is a shame because it was like having a bloke read the papers for you so I could concentrate on the sports:) A' Psycho has come highly recommended before so I'll try and give that a go also. Even though I knew what it was about I watched the film and didn't quite get it. I don't know if it's my attention span, but I find I have to watch most films three times before I get it
@kemiladashdot I enjoyed the film as well, but the book is better (IMO), pity he's stopped doing it, looks like I've got quite a big backlog to get through anyway.
These guys are so high powerd and fun.. I've yet to see them live but imagine it's a good work out! I also love static - the noise kind; not the mind where I get semi elctrocuted - and dystopian movies. Books too.
@alisonsghost No, I think it's just bad spelling. By indirectly admitting to reading Penthouse Letters, I have consciously revealed more than I've repressed.

Torn between skip and like. Think it's the static that annoys me but overall, a like :-)
kemiladashdot
@BarneyRubble thanks for showing the track mercy, a lesser man would've skipped.
Brownpants
I like static. To liberally paraphrase John Peel '*life's* got static'. This is a beast!
kemiladashdot
@Brownpants @BarneyRubble I'm slightly perturbed as I can't hear the static. Is it this polyester suit I'm wearing?
Brownpants
@kemiladashdot I think by static @BarneyRubble means the electronic wooshes and whatnot. That said, the polyester suit can't be helping matters....
kemiladashdot
@Brownpants Good, because it's the only suit that goes with this anorak.
Axol
Brilliant track :-)
HaveACuppaTea
Nothing not to like really, never heard the whole of this track, just bits of it in adverts etc. What did you think of the film 'Blade Runner'?

@HaveACuppaTea That link above usually works but on some occasions won't work first time. Here's a good list of dystopian movies, you've probably seen most but it's interesting anyway. http://www.cuttingthroughthematrix.com/movies.html

*started* but will listen to more before I come to an opinion, it's an interesting listen though.
vincestclair
@HaveACuppaTea That's not true about most blokes, I read the letters page in Penthouse.
HaveACuppaTea
@vincestclair True, and I bet that's a good letters page, sorry Vince.

@HaveACuppaTea Well you should know, you lent it to me.
HaveACuppaTea
@vincestclair It's actually Kevin's he's got a vast collection.
HaveACuppaTea
@kemiladashdot I enjoyed the film as well, but the book is better (IMO), pity he's stopped doing it, looks like I've got quite a big backlog to get through anyway.
kemiladashdot
@HaveACuppaTea I have a vest collection. Is that what you're referring to?
HaveACuppaTea
@kemiladashdot haha, yeah that as well. who doesn't love a good vest...
kdd
Love static and dystopian movies!
kemiladashdot
@kddaniel That's what this page is all about!!!
kdd
@vincestclair You're probably forgetting that Pethouse Letters are not fiction.
kdd
@kemiladashdot FInally, I'm in the right place then.
vincestclair
@kddaniel They're not fiction, I'm sure. Only fantasists would make up that stuff and I don't think that's the type of readership the publication has.

stereoGrover
Thanks for turning me on to this. Had never heard them before today.
sweeter
Amazing. Hearing this jam for the 1st time today is exactly why I love this site & why #funkyfriday is simply the best day of the week.
kemiladashdot
@smette I always thought you lived in the dystopian present to be honest. maybe we could start a dystopian book club.
kemiladashdot
@sweeter @stereoGrover Thanks guys, your excitement has spurred me on for another week of jamming.
kemiladashdot
@Axol Whoops! didn't respond to your comment, got distracted by cuppatea and Vince. Always enjoy your feedback and approval:)
MyBlueElephant
Fun and energy : they are obviously on your list! Love this band :)
kemiladashdot
@MyBlueElephant YES!!! Actually it was milk and sugar, but that list sounds much more rad! :)
BeeBee
Bleedin' marvelous!
alisonsghost
@kddaniel Was 'Pethouse' a Freudian slip?
MadameZia
This is ok xx
kemiladashdot
@MadameZia It's making the unsophisticated happy, they deserve love also.
kemiladashdot
@alisonsghost If I gave prizes, that would surely be the top prize!!!!!!
kemiladashdot
@BeeBee Steady on Boy!
MadameZia
@kemiladashdot you 're not wrong
