Apologies if anyone thinks this in NOT glum - but, although set in the sixties, it is a typical downbeat story of the archetypal 70s guy who "marries in haste, repents at leisure". What an awful mess he's made of his life already, and only typically into his early twenties. This is probably why his children, and those of his peers from the time, tended to marry and have their own children much later.

There was subsequently, for a long time, no further "baby boom" similar to that which occurred in the 1970s - though I believe there is now something of a resurgence in 'procreation' once again. What makes you think I've been through something similar to the story being told in the song? Oh yes. I shan't go into it here, but, suffice to say - THIS IS GLUM. Details: Got to No. 2 in the UK in 1979 (the year my first wife and I hit problems!). Say no more.

Such a good song. No chorus - unusual for a big hit.

Saw them last year in Vegas-they played a 7 minute version of Black Coffee with TWO guitar solos! Great choice!
