Is 3D Chess a real game? Like jet packs & matter transporters it's used to represent the future, unlike jet packs & matter transporters I could actually invent that.
@kemiladashdot I remember them playing it on Star Trek. I think it does exist but it's obviously too difficult for ordinary folk. I've got the game Space Lines which is 3D noughts and crosses but with 4 x4 x4 squares, so you had to get 4 lines of a colour in any direction, up, down, across, diagonally, etc.. and that was pretty complex
@kemiladashdot You've got to see this...I had one of these when I was a kid....'the Digital Game' of Ping Pong which was totally mechanical. Ha...I spent hours and hours playing that wretched thing http://youtu.be/Xuyc_T_Qp3Q
@philipnareike Ha Amazing mechanism & amazing "deception". Makes me wonder how many computers have I had that were actually just mechanical devices. The clue was in the windy uppy thingy though.
@kemiladashdot It was clockwork! When I saw the picture on the box I remember thinking it was firing red light lazers all over the place. It took batteries but that was only to light up the LED .
@philipnareike Ha! Back in the day, you only needed a suggestion that something was happening, & your imagination filled in the (plenty of) blanks.
I suppose it's the same today but for a shorter period, until you start demanding your Google glasses & full immersion in a3D experience.
Of course. It's funny that some of those early computer games are so unplayable now, that not even nostalgia can see you through. (Astoroids, paper boy?)
Blast! I'll design a 3D draughts set then. So whilst Kirk & Spock play chess, that ships engineer (whatever his name is) would probably be happier with that.

@kemiladashdot You can actually buy a 3D chess game...it's a replica of the one Spock and co. played in Star Trek
