More Than This by 10,000 Maniacs

“This 30+ year old band just came out with a new album called "Twice Told Tales" which I recommend. I almost jammed something from that, but this cover of a 1982 Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music song that appeared on 10,000 Maniacs' "Love Among The Ruins" album back in 1997 holds more personal significance and history with me. Of everything 10,000 Maniacs have recorded from their time with Natalie Merchant in the 80s to Mary Ramsey's tenure with them since, this song both takes me back and rights me forward. Natalie Merchant's cover of "Peace Train" runs a close second to my heart. The video was filmed at a Wisconsin tourist attraction called The House on the Rock; an eccentric amusement complex boasting "the world's largest indoor carousel," as well as "music machines" that can play remotely without human assistance. I've never been, but I hear it's every bit as fantastical and strange as it appears in this video, as the backdrop for Mary Ramsey's beautiful voice and excellent fiddling.”
