"A Song for You" is a song written and originally recorded by rock singer-songwriter and pianist Leon Russell for his first solo album Leon Russell, which was released in 1970 on Shelter Records. A slow, pained plea for forgiveness and understanding from an estranged lover, the tune is one of Russell's best-known compositions. It has been performed and recorded by an array of artists, spanning many musical genres. Elton John has called the song an American classic Russell was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, March 14, 2011 A bonus jam from this session is the Honky Tonk Woman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRlkIunIU-c   4

Other postings reminded me of Leon Russell yesterday. Such a great arranger and songwriter. I checked out his induction to the R&R; Hall of Fame, and was surprised to hear of how many people he's recorded with...from the Beach Boys to Sinatra, so, so many great artists. This is probably one of his best known ballads, covered by over 40 others. His other most well known ballad, "This Masquerade", was the first song to top the pop, jazz and r&b; charts simultaneously. Leon also has quite a few country recordings under the name Hank Wilson, mostly country standards done with great care and love for the genre. He's still touring - I'd check him out if I had the chance. Enjoy this soulful classic.   2
