“Exotica Music is mid-century music mostly done by white guy jazz types who went to Polynesia and came back with "native music" filtered through western stereotypes of island people. The music is great, though it is often weighted down by bird calls, volcano eruptions, and various other modes of kitsch. Still, I'm very much enjoying this exploration, and Arthur Lyman is one of the masters of this genre.”
