Rounding off my time on ThisIsMyJam, I introduce my Eternal Jam - a track from my favourite artist, Boards of Canada. This is where it all started for me. I first got into IDM (which I consider my speciality) through this specific track. Everything about the track's composition just clicked with me and it still does; that twinkling intro with transitory melody is as instrumental as the expansive and textured synth which soars in sync with the percussion. It's a pretty simple track but the magic caveat of this band is not in the (sometimes) extreme complexity of Autechre or the eccentricity of Aphex Twin - even if they can at times display elements of both - but rather in the way their craft taps into a certain part of the psyche which otherwise remains unsatisfied. Some put it in terms of 'nostalgia', others (a bit crazy mind you) have called it subliminal messaging. Whatever it is, there is a certain magic emanating from the brothers' music and it comes in many different colours...   1
