The Sinking of the Titanic by Gavin Bryars

AndyMack’s jam on 3 Sep ’13 and then once after that (See all)

“A beautiful piece from 1975. The band that played on the Titanic carried on playing as passengers desperately tried to escape into lifeboats. The musicians in the band all perished and in this moving tribute Bryars imagines the music carrying on all the way to the bottom of the Atlantic.”

Produced by Brian Eno in 1975. The piece is based on the true story of the Titanic's orchestra carrying on playing as the ship slipped beneath the waves. Beautiful and moving.   4
