the Velvet Cell by Gravenhurst

ennacooper’s jam on 23 May ’12 and then once after that (See all)

“This, when Gravenhurst played the Dublin Castle for the Fires in Distant Buildings album launch. Nothing short of stunning, yet all my memories of that gig are less about Nick than of the others - Dave towering over his drum kit like some sort of mechanical octopus, each beat punctuated by the strobes, people approaching Huw after the gig "oh my god that was so amazing" and this is the same Huw I used to find asleep on the sofa, his still half-full can of beer about to topple to the floor, when we'd get in from watching bands on nights that Huw couldn't do. There's obviously a lot of Nick in my memories of Gravenhurst, and Assembly Communications, gigs, just not of this one in particular. Because of other factors there was so much emotion caught up with Gravenhurst, both personally and also subsumed from other people around me while Assembly Communications became Gravenhurst. Of everyone I've known in bands, Nick was the person I most expected to make it, but I expected it last longer.”

Discovered it on this site and I just love it. Sinister and alluring. Can definitly hear a bit of 'The Velvet Underground' in it.
