Roy Clark Ballade by Hektor Von Usedom

“1967 "I'm a pickin' and a grinnin...in lederhosen and a big straw hat" For many Roy Clark is, unfortunately, best known for his corn pone hick persona on the late 60s to early 70's comedy variety show, Hee Haw. The show promoted hayseed humor and stereotypes. It was so self consciously and annoyingly out of step and unhip to young know it all hipsters -but the comfort food, however, for "silent majority" Nixon Republicans, with their Reader's Digest flag decals prominently displayed on their Plymouth Valients. As for Roy Clark, he was an exceptionally inventive guitarist. As a session player he was wild. So much so, if I recall the story correctly, he would be told to tone it down. So crazed and bored, he'd get canned.”
