The Curse (Live At Iveagh Gardens) by Josh Ritter

markcmphillips’s jam on 23 Aug ’13 and then 2 times after that (See all)

#finaljams #finaljam Ok, this is it - the one I'm signing off with. Josh Ritter has long been a favourite artist of mine and I've seen him play live more times than I can count, in London, Brighton, Amsterdam and Dublin. In this clip filmed in Dublin, Josh dedicates one of his loveliest songs to Road Records, that brilliant and now long defunct Dublin institution where I've discovered so much great music over the years. In this song, a tragedy and a romance, the key lines - ones of optimism are: "she asked 'do you think that you're cursed?' - 'no, I think that I'm cured...'" and Sam Kassirer's beautiful piano lines sustain the narrative. Once you've seen Liam Hurley's puppet video to this, it's impossible to forget it and it feeds the images conjured by the song. Overall, this song for me is about love in unlikely circumstances, it reminds me of dear friends and so many good times and Poe and Shakespeare. This one is mostly, though, for my wife - love you so much.”

#anniversaryjam #21years Not terribly romantic lyrically, but one of the most beautiful folk waltzes ever - and recorded in a garden in Dublin. This one is for the woman who has been my partner for 22 years and wife for 21. Love you still so very much.x.   5

Was looking for the 2010 Daytrotter solo acoustic version, but this one is immense.   3
