Growing up in the mid 90's, I was a big fan of my Commodore Amiga computer, and the four channel electronic music it was capable of playing, which was so much better than the primitive sound of most other home PCs of the time. While electronic music had been in place for many years prior, the advent of the Amiga encouraged a lot of young wannabe musicians (including myself) to try their hands at composing it without having to invest in expensive equipment. As such, music I heard in on the Amiga, composed by both pros and amateurs, has strongly influenced my future taste for electronic music. The folks at Junior Boys, one of my favorite bands of today, and (in my mind) one of the most underrated musicians of our time, clearly use more advanced equipment (not to mention great vocals) than what the Amiga offered 20 years ago, yet their sound somehow reminds me of that great era of the democratization of electronic music - translated to today's standards.
