“'Yes Yes Y'All' - MC Shy D. It's no secret that I've liked hip-hop pretty much since it came over to the UK in the 80s. I first heard this on a John Peel show in '87 and loved the piano sample in the background (I've always liked the music more than lyrics). Fast forward to the mid 2000s, deep into the age of the internet. I came across a mixtape from Phoreyz/DJ Chonz/Byze One called Undefeated Vol 2, which includes the Visioneers' "Ike's Mood I". There was that piano again - which is why it became one of the first tracks I TIMJ'd back in 2013. Now, thanks to the internet, I know the whole thing was lifted from Isaac Hayes' "Ike's Mood" from 1970. But it all stems from that piano sample I first heard (and taped off the radio) on this track back in '87. Music evokes funny stuff in us, doesn't it?”
