My favourite song by Spoon. It's multi-layered synths and minimalism really caught me, the emotion in Britt's voice and the strange lyrics. Very immersive.
As always, I'm late to the hipster game. But I heard "Do You" by Spoon a few months back and really liked it, plus Brit Daniels' sideband, The Divine Fits, covered an old pre-Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds/Birthday Party song written by the brilliant Rowland S. Howard called "Shivers" on their first record, which was really good. Then seeing Spoon live last Saturday reminded me that their hits are all such fantastic pop/rock songs. They're just a great band, no bullshit and unpretentious...a rarity these days. This track, "Inside Out," from their latest record is pure indie pop bliss. It should be on every coffee shop's summer playlists, along with everyone else's "2015 Make Out Mix." Now go drink a coffee or make out with someone, but reverse the order.
