There are those who think that this is one of the best songs ever written. I tend to agree. I remember when I first heard this back in '74 it made the hairs on the back of my head stand. I listened to it again and again in those long ago days. Today it still has that same effect. I wonder if you agree. #musicthatmovesme 3
I remember during my final term in the sixth form (1973) hearing this on the radio one day (John Peel?)
It seemed distinctly exotic and weirdly French! I did not note the Cockney Rebel reference until much later. (More to come on that) Now I know the track did extremely well in Europe but not in the UK. It stuck in my mind and resonates there decades later .....
