When country didn't suck because it was still essentially white jazz.

For November 2007, @MOJOmagazine selected a covermount theme that an American magazine would never have the guts to do: titled Cigarettes and Alcohol, the comp "presents 15 tracks celebrating the pleasures and drinking and smoking." Another nice departure from the usual genre exercises or tribute comps, this set of songs is heavy on music from the '60s and earlier (only sad sack songster Malcolm Middleton represents the current day), and the easy winner is this co-written Tex Williams/Merle Travis western swing number from 1947. There are a dozen or more versions out there, but I managed to find the same one as the covermount. And I suppose the Liam Gallagher UK magazine cover (US copies used Blondie as the cover star) is a good tie-in for drinking and smoking!   7
