Brenda Holloway's glorious original of this certainly impressed the mods. That's where the Small Faces and the Spencer Davis Group picked up on it, for sure. And I'd wager the Jam's cover was picked up from the Small Faces. Which brings me to this obscure cover by the Clash, Mick Jones' ghostly vocal a perfect circle back to Brenda Holloway. Mick almost certainly based his on the source.
