Man, I don't know what it is about the pillows. Their sound, their style, their massiveness. All I know is that rock is not dead. In honor of the 25th anniversary of their signing with King Records, here is EASILY their best song from a music standpoint. "Last Dinosaur" evokes the very title, being prehistoric and simple in execution, but wonderfully brash in style. The translation of the lyrics tell of a loner who survived hardship by fighting back and, in doing so, became a legend of his small town. This lead to a distancing from others but a want to still be heard. That is an astoundingly specific story, and one that Japanese society has seen all too often in it's modern times. It sounds like the theme to a badass who has a lot on his mind. It doesn't hurt that lead singer Sawao Yamanaka has solid chops. Nothing unique and nothing pretty. Just a punch-you-in-the-face zeitgeist.
