The combined AIF and NZEF (to become known as ANZAC) sailed from King Georges Sound, Albany, West Australia for Alexandria, Egypt, on 1st November, 1914.
The convoy of 28 Australian and 10 NZ ships was protected by 2 Australian, 1 British, and 1 Japanese cruiser.
On the Arawa were my grandfather and his two younger brothers; troopers in QAMR the Wellington Mounted Rifle regiment. All were wounded during the next four years but survived.
