Melbourne boy James Keogh (stage name Vance Joy) beat teen Kiwi megastar and Grammy Award winner Lorde to the top spot on Australia's ABC JJJ Hottest 100 for 2013 by the relatively narrow margin of 1000 votes with his debut single. "Riptide" peaked at number seven on the ARIA charts in April last year but went on to achieve triple platinum status. It is the first time that the winner has not released an album, and the first song to have been written for and played on a ukulele.

Awesome!
I was scared of dentists and the dark,
I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations...
I love you when you're singing that song,
And I got a lump in my throat,
'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong!
