Comptine D'été N°17 by Yann Tiersen

“Been on a minor Yann Tiersen kick lately, and though I'm a big fan of his later rock-inspired work, I still like to return to his roots. His debut album, La Valse Des Monstres, shows Tiersen already at home with the assorted instruments he's known for using -- toy piano, accordion, melodica, etc. This short piece is for two harpsichords, and it also captures his affinity for energetic waltzes. The rest of the album is a lot like this, too -- little curios comprising a conceptual set, reminiscent of classical works like Carnival of the Animals. I especially like the darker tone here that largely vanishes on his next project, the Amelie soundtrack.”
