As always, great article. It didn't focus on the person, but the music.

Wow, can two years have already passed? I was at the gig and there was a bit of an uncomfortable vibe I felt also, but couldn't place exactly. Great show, but she postured a sort of blunted to pre-occupied affect. Hard to make sense of. Uptight. One gay woman kept looking in my direction defensively as if I was scoping her girlfriend. I wasn't. I'm happily married, I'm not on the make. That defensiveness was sad but also annoying. Still, cutting through all that it was very good show.

they were a bit standoffish, perhaps...just a cool band being cool, I think. I ain't mad.

@vomitsunami I wasn't mad either. It was a solid performance....just that the atmospherics made it hard to relax and have a really fun time.

thanks @christineb -- ! I used to try to write about music as simply as I could -- to take as much of the pretension out of it as possible -- so even someone like my mom could make sense of it. I sort of gave that up...figuring that the people who are interested will sort themselves out...

Oh, I know @whiffoself... "I ain't mad" is just a dumb expression...I should stop using it. If there were any weird vibes at the show, they were probably my fault...fantasizing about the alternate dimension where I'm a hip young British rocker-girl who just discovered late '70s/early '80s post-punk: X-Ray Spex, The Slits, Au Pairs, The Raincoats...
