The stickiness was most noticeable when we sat on the floor to do the sit down "dance" to The Gap Band's "Oops upside your head". It'd leave rather dubious looking stains on yer trews. :-(
@heatherrings hahaha. That bloody Gap Band thing. I'd forgotten 'bout that. Yes, certain 'types' indulged in that sort of behaviour, but I spared my Miami Vice whites from those more obvious stain inducing activities. Although this disc got limited airplay, it was and remains, one of my faves. Glad you enjoyed another wee trip down memory lane m'dear...;-)
Oh yeah . . .Great Jam - I think all 'discos' had to have a sticky floor - it was compulsary. I wasted many a night in Oldfields. At the end of the evening me and my mate use to pretend to go to the loo and run off for the last train - leaving the blokes that had been buying us vodka all evening without their envisaged reward!! Not easy in some shoes .. . (the ones that weren't left stuck to the floor anyways).
I think Cinderella's shoe was lost in this way, if it was a perfect fit it would never have fallen off. I don't think we got the whole story, it was clearly stuck to the floorboards in some sleezy disco! I will research this further!
@lindatee Ha! Now those 'Girly House Rules' should have been made available as necessary pre-disco reading to every geezer wot thought he was onto a good time with u lot!! You wicked person...;-) As for the twisted fairy tale gig...you been at the vodka this morning?!? Good luck with the research u mad fool... ;-))
@21schizoid I think every fairytale has a dark meaning behind it - It's just dressed up to make it more accessible to children! I was gonna put vodka on my cornflakes this morning = but thought better of it - besides - my kids had actually left me some milk. Result!
@lindatee I'm sure you're fairy tale theory is correct...Roald Dahl and all that! Hmmmm, vodkamilk cornflakes. It's that sort of shenanigans that put Tony the Tiger in the Betty Ford clinic, madam... ;-)
Tony the Tiger was a bad influence. He tried to get us all hooked on sugar. Little did I know he was off his tits on vodka at the time. Shame on him!!!
@21schizoid Sorry to have lowered the tone. I must be reverting to "type". Getting back to Disco...I really liked "I feel love" by Donna Summer, "Let's stick together" by Bryan Ferry and then all the great Chic numbers.
sticky floor!!....my sat job as a teenie was to polish the dance floor of a Butlins...i still like the hear disco,it does create movement /energy...nice
@heatherrings You're a disgrace, woman! Actually, I like that in a woman...retain that 'quality'... You didn't lower the tone, bloody TIMJ did. Betty Feckin'Boo. One more suggestion like that and i'll be an ex-Jammer. Like your other disco suggestions. Get onto posting some of those, why don't you... ;-)
@lynn200 Oh Lynn. Feel sure that aspect of your Butlins portfolio was one you didn't wish to be reminded of! Still, life's rich tapestry and all that...I'm a wee disco fan. You're right about the energy. Nice to feel that from music... :-)

obadiah99
@21schizoid I thought the sticky floor was to keep the girls' handbags from getting moved around.............
21schizoid
@obadiah99 Ha! You may be correct Tony. It did also help in steadying them, when you were trying to steal stuff...er, apparently... ;-)
heatherrings
@21schizoid Hmmmm. I'm a "type" am I? :-o Care to elaborate?
21schizoid

@21schizoid Ha ha - care to elaborate? You've got me repeating myself. A sign of old age. Were you not taught to respect your elders? :-)

Just looked at some of the TIMJ suggestions on Jams to Explore, inspired by 'My Fine Jam'...'Doin' the Do' by Betty Boo...just off to kill myself...
heatherrings
@21schizoid "Doin; the Do"? Sounds a bit yucky. Reminds me of a line in a Bread song - "I made a motion - and it's out on the floor". :-P
