I had a lecturer recount a similar experience to his class of spotty boys - his wee sports car's canvas roof was punctured by stilettos - much harder to explain to his wife than windscreen footprints hahaha. This was a double crime (a) infidelity and (b) a class of spotty boys now had a revolting mental image of a far-from well-loved lecturer in flagrante delicto. Jeez fanx.
I don't think I've ever heard of this band. I'll admit I kinda "sat on the fence" for a while but after a second listen via the toob I've come down on the Like side. :-)
Always liked Shirley Manson in Garbage, but having been forced to play the Angelfish CD in my record shop days, I was fearful the Makenzies would be the same and have actually never heard them before clicking on this. Nice jangly guitar, but probably a few years too late for them to get much attention that late in the '80s.
I love this - was gonna jam it myself - I think this is about the best song GMM did . . . I can't think of anything else actually! Another great tale Mr B - I can only hope that said gf was leaving her footprints on another windscreen too!
@heatherrings I am not an opinionated person, madam. I merely through the topic out there, for general chit-chat...and because I'm a nosey parker. Good though, 'innit?? I mean the song... ;-)
@daved I can see Dave, you have been deeply affected by that lecturer revelation and I have unwittingly brought it all back. Perhaps in the modern way, you could sue...Him, no' me... ;-)
@nasalhazel You wee clever clogs, Jen. I like a girl who's done her homework! I do believe your point on releasing music on the cusp of another style shift, is an excellent one. A number of prog bands were left in musical limbo, when the punk shift occurred. Not a nice play to be as a musician, unless you're a changeling...like Mr Bowie for example. Glad you engaged with this song though. I think it's rather good, even though the Macks they had little or no success. :-)
@lindatee Thanks Lindyloo. I always remember their eponymous single ('89 I think) which I've got on vinyl. This should help...I think it's rather cool and wee Shirley's doin' the twirly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_2n0VZKUUQ I'm with you on the 'good for the goose/gander' point, though I don't think she was like that. However...they have been happily married for many years now, though I do hope she doesn't do TIMJ...oops... ;-)
@21schizoid I used to see "The Mackenzies" in the local pub (Dreadnought I think) way back before their record contract days. So much potential, and this is SUCH a good track, but again, they never made it to the heights I expected. Lovely reminder though
@BarneyRubble Cheers Barn. Fantastic. Glad I could help you on the Transporter! I agree...great unrealised potential. I wonder just how many more there were...
Quite liked the track, but I'm more taken by your anecdote. I like your use of the word 'experimentalism' in this case, coz in my limited experience of such vehicular dabblings, I'm wondering how the footprints got on the windscreen! I suppose it depends on the car in question. Was it a particularly small model? :)
I checked out the link you posted (GMM by GMM) and I think I like that more. Nice guitar work. I've listened to TR 3 times now (only once on here) and it's defo a grower. :-)
@Phyl Small vehicle, tall 'experimentalists' with specialised 'equipment' and a working knowledge of sexual origami... The art of boffing in a folded position... ;-)
Great version - this is the hard to find original recording of the song. A sanitised version was released some years later (and was a minor hit), with the "Eating Them Beaver" line replaced by "Eating Them, Cheating Them". Unfortunately the new line sounded like "Eating them cheese-dips" on first listen.
@scobo2006 Haha. Thanks Scotty boy. In my financial days (around 212 BC) I worked in a suite of offices, one of which was occupied by a little entity called Culture City. One of their occasional contributors was a Mr T Shields Esq. I was THAT close to fame... ;-)
@heatherrings You madam, are the thinking persons music listener! For that reason, I urge you to take a wander to @daved page and listen to a wonder piece, seemingly unloved by '20 seconds & I defo don't like that one-ists'. I'd be surprised if you were disappointed. Your musical tastes have expanded more than any other Jamster I've encountered, thus far...no pressure then... ;-)
@ian38018 Haha. It's the 7" single version I have in my wee collection, Ian. "I hold what I need in my right hand"...marvellous stuff. I bloody hate radio sanitised versions of songs, almost as much as shortened versions. Radio2 are arseholes for that kinda' thang. Hangin' out their street cred for all to see, by playing 'Won't Get Fooled Again', 3 minute edit...oooh, it makes my blood boil, Edna... ;-)
@21schizoid Been there, done that, got the.... ... I actually listened to it last night - all the way through (got there before you). I wavered, curser hovering over the like button all the way through, but in the end my finger didn't press. I'll give it another go later. :-)
No I don't remember these folks! Rather like this, sounds like all sorts of other stuff, but can't quite pin all the influences down. Which is probably a good thing! So was that Garbage burd in Mr Mac? I'm with @heatherrings on the other tune. Nice little story too :-)
@mikelowe Not much to remember, Mikey. A fleeting brush with limited success is about it and yes, Ms Garbage was a feature! I chose this one, as I did buy it first time round. However, I happen to like both tracks, as an indicator of what might have been. Hey ho, they released two more singles than me! As for the story...it wasn't me. It really was Martin. I have had moments in my car...like the time for example (and I'm embarrassed to admit this) I chose third gear, instead of second...really!!
@heatherrings I know, I know. Tell His Musicness, I'll get to his Jam tomorrow. I've got a severe case of InterwebusInterruptus tonight and it's doin' my bloomin' nut in! I'm off to read some crime fiction...the old fashioned way, by book!! ;-) x
great song and even better story...vive le experimentalism! I saw GMM way back, once at QMU and once supporting someone (forget who) at the Barras. Happy Days indeed.
@totemarro Thank you sir. I'm sure there's a few more tucked away somewhere. Can't see it being a best seller, but if I do and it is, you're on a cut!! :-)
@heatherrings Hello there! I'm good thanks. Trust you & the boy are in fine fettle too. Had a mega review of my social media usage (amongst other things) & just thought I was getting too bogged down with it. Whilst I do miss having a natter with some of the Jamsters, by & large I'm surprised how easy it's been to walk away from the whole socmed thang. Liberating, to be honest. Left this channel open to keep in touch, but I'm just revelling in more reading time. Books...it's the way forward! ;-)
It's good to walk away for a while. I skipped twitter for a whole month - and lost not a single follower. I returned with a Happy New Year post and lost a chunk. Meh.
@daved Kindleworm just doesn't have the same ring, Dave. I'm enjoying the socmed sabbatical. Have been wondering why the hell I'm doin' it, for ages. It truly is amazing the time it frees up and the alternatives you find, to fill it. Just like the good old days...music and books to the fore... :-)
@21schizoid Well, once again that young @heatherrings has beaten me to it! Just popped by to enquire after your welfare & she's been here, done it & probably got your t shirt as well! Glad to see you're in good spirits Brother and enjoying some of "the good old days". I shall expect to see you @ Hay Festival of Literature in May at this rate! Take care of yourself and carry on enjoying all this free time you've got on your hands, but don't get into too much mischief! :-)
@mikelowe Yo Sir Michael of Lowe! All is well here in Cave Central. Ah, the Hay Festival...now that I would enjoy. I can see it now, ye olde book lovers, burning piles of Kindles...Sadly, I seldom indulge in mischief making these days, other than ninja-style stealth ripostes on Twitter. However, as I've gone anti-socmed, even that activity has been put to the sword. Anyhoo, thank thee for dropping by. You and the JamTeam are too kind. I shall do that other thing you mentioned, this very instant.
@21schizoid@heatherrings "World Book Day?" As good a reason as any to be happy! At this rate I'll see you both @ The Hay Festival, only 11 weeks to go - but who's counting? Do you think a "This Is My Book" site might be a goer? What's that....goodreads have beaten us to it?....botha! *sighs* :-( xx
@BladeRunner Sorry Jess. Brain malfunction...plus I don't do French! I'm cool thanks. Trust you're still happily Jammin'. I haven't checked TIMJ out in a fortnight. Desire malfunction!! Anyhoo, that was sweet of you to drop by. Do feel free to call again...appointment not necessary... ;-)
@21schizoid Hi Doc! I was kidding with the French, due to Pepe Le Pew ;) Well, i'm jamming as usual, a bit of everything, carnival, happy sunny songs, even jammed one brazilian psychrock by Os Mutantes, I thought you'd might like! I was missing your stories and your comments, but most of all, I hope you're fine! =D
Just popping in for my weekly consultation. Jamworld is still turning. We are, just about, coping without you. But, er....how can I say it....the "atmosphere" is lacking a certain something now that Pepe le Pew isn't around. ;-) Be happy! Love n hugs x
@heatherrings A thousand apologies. In between business, house, laptops...head's gone! I believe I missed your birthday too. Hope you had a blast. Thank you for visiting the cave. I just haven't had even the teensiest keek at TIMJ if I'm honest, but I'm sure its future is safe without my interference!! Still hearing songs that would rate posting, so I'll squirrel them away, just in case... Trust you and the boy are in the rudest of health. Lotsalurve...The Pepsta'...xx
@21schizoid No need to apologise, m'dear. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I just hope you and yours are OK and that all is well. I did have a very nice birthday, thank you. I'm still wheezing rather musically but Hubsta is much. much better now (and is still jamming :-)). Of the two of us, he is probably the rudest, healthwise and in every otherwise. ;-). We wish you good health and happiness. Keep enjoying your books and music. Love and blessings and a big hug. H & I xxxx
