It's worth following, definitely. Since they allow guest hosts, there's the occasional risk of an evening of rubbish, but it's generally very good stuff, including a fair amount that I've never heard.
I will happily take that credit! BTW, they're recording together again--just a couple of tracks for the Merge XX subscription series, but still, it's encouraging news.
@A_Silvers Is it the (expensive) Merge set that you mean?The Clientele aren't very good at publicity! I've been wondering what has happened to Mel Draisey, she seems to be the only one not co-opted into Amor de Dias...Wonderful jam, anyway.

@alisonsghost To be honest, they were burdened insurmountable expectations after the press blurb compared them to Galaxie 500 and Spiritualized. That was in San Francisco, of course, so I assume the writer just had an encounter with recreational drugs when he came up with that comparison.
@thisismymistake Do you mean when you saw them in San Francisco? I haven't come across those comparisons before, what year was it? But from the footage I've seen of them live I can see why they wouldn't necessarily wrestle you to the floor...I always think Alisdair Maclean writes songs that are possibly too difficult for him to sing live. As for Mel Draisey, I've seen her facebook page..I don't like fb much, and tend to find more out on Twitter. Thanks very much for the link :)
@alisonsghost Just had a look and it was June 21, 2001 at Bottom of the Hill. They were sandwiched between two bands I was there to see, Dealership and Rubymar. They were pretty mellow, but so was Galaxie 500 when I saw them. Also didn't want to imply that they were terrible, just that they didn't really catch my attention until Amy (@A_Silvers) put them on a mixer a few years later.
@thisismymistake That was before The Violet Hour came out. Lucky you! Well sort of...It's okay, I didn't take it personally :) It's often the way with music, it gets hold of you when you're ready...A comment which sounds spuriously deep. Or vice versa.
@alisonsghost It is the expensive Merge set that they're recording for. I'm really torn about whether to pay for it--there aren't that many Merge artists I like, so it might turn out to be a VERY expensive Clientele single. :-) But I'd hate to miss out on those tracks, on the other hand. Maybe Santa will put it in my stocking...
@A_Silvers I know what you mean. I don't think I can manage it, sadly. Have you got a copy of It's Art Dad? I wish they'd release it as an EP like any normal band!!
I do have It's Art Dad. For a while, you could order it directly from the band, and I managed to snag a copy then. I wish they'd release it properly too--it's much better than they seem to think it is!
Love them, saw them 2x in San Diego. Thankful they made a stop there each time. Your hosting on Neglected Nuggets on Twitter this week has been awesome!
@A_Silvers @ Judging by the tracks I've heart from IAD on youtube they are certainly underestimating it. I have a bad habit of buying compilations in memory of dead indie artists to get tracks contributed by The Clientele!! You were their top re-tweet a few days ago, heading their page :)
