@Marlboroman_Mat I'm with @simonp - great cocktail of the poppy (Breaking Glass, What in the World, Sound and Vision) with the arty / melancholy (the instrumentals... love A New Career in a New Town). The whole Berlin trilogy was massively underrated for years.
did you read the mojo piece about the making of 'low'? - loads of fun stuff, esp. about when Angie pitched up with her new lover and started being even more weird than usual (serving as inspiration for 'be my wife'), and her boyfriend having big, noisy fisticuffs with david ('breaking glass'). fab stuff!
@antonywaltjarv No, I haven't read it - sounds hilarious. When was this? Have just had a look online in the vain hope I'd stumble across it, but no luck.
back in february. also - Eno was convinced the ghosts of Chopin and George Sand were haunting them, and got freaked out when he developed a cough! If you can't find it online, i could try scanning and e-mailing it to you....should work?
@antonywaltjarv If that's not too much hassle, then it would be brilliant. I knew it was a bit of a rollercoaster time when they were recording it, but didn't realise quite how crazy it got. So yes, if you can, I'd really appreciate it - thanks.
@AlicejustMay Hi there - I found it online (which is just as well, as my scanner obviously isn't good enough to blow it up to readable) - it's text only, so none of the pics.
@antonywaltjarv Hugely entertaining. What made me laugh was the story about 'Always Crashing in the Same Car' the unlucky, much-dented Merc that Bowie was trying to sell off. A beautiful, yearning melody... and these words (see next post):
"Every chance,
every chance that I take
I take it on the road
Those kilometres and the red lights
I was always looking left and right
Oh, but I'm always crashing
in the same car
Jasmine, I saw you peeping
As I pushed my foot down to the floor
I was going round and round the hotel garage
Must have been touching close to 94
Oh, but I'm always crashing
in the same car"
@AlicejustMay Do you know 'All Saints'? - all the indtrumentals from the 'Low'/'Heroes' period plus a few extra ones - v good (though, I suppose you could just download the ones you don't know and make a DIY version)
@antonywaltjarv oops - last comment referred to the Visconti book. And no, I didn't know 'All Saints'. I have most of the tracks, so I think a DIY just-add-the-others approach would be a sound one. 'Scuse the pun...

What, and take away the one ray of hope. Hmm, I think I've just decided on my new jam...
simonp
And probably my favourite album. Poppy and arty on each side. Perfect.

@simonp It's a hard one to beat.

@LadyGulag Thanks!
Marlboroman_Mat
Thanks for this, but I always thought "Low" (I've had it for years - on cassette (remember those? ha ha)) was one of Bowie's gloomier albums.

@AlicejustMay if you like it you should look out for Visconti's autobiography - loads of great stuff about Boiwie and Bolan etc.

@antonywaltjarv Terrific - thanks so much. Will let you know what I thought when I've finished reading!
