I remember you Jammed the video to Open Eye Signal months back (the first time I'd heard anything by him wasn't the magnificent collaboration with King Creosote). It was the video that got me intrigued first; then I realised ho much I'd engaged with the music. Another #TIMJdiscovery for me, thanks.
Agreed. Got a great response when I Jammed the track he did with Natasha Khan a few months back. he's been busy this year and apparently @simonp he's doing another album with King Creosote next year.
@thisismymistake@d0minic@simonp@Olimite I don't know what it is, but do you find that music feels textural on your skin? Like some sounds are velvet dragging over you and others are like tapping on hollow bones, or running your fingertips against mesh? I think that's what so obsesses me - it's that physical connection, not just the emotional reaction that makes your adrenalin pump, but the feel of sound, a sensory thing, like having patterns running over you. Or does that sound daft?
so you're a synesthesiatist then @AlicejustMay? There's no doubt music can transcend time and place for me, lifting you out of the moment entirely. And there is certainly a visceral thrill when you instantly love something new
@AlicejustMay My current Jam I jammed already. I jammed it over 6 months ago and it was only up for a day or two so probably a good number of my followers didn't get it to hear it. That's my philosophy. I won't be jamming my Single Of The Year as I've jammed 2 covers of it already this year and the original has been done to death.
@AlicejustMay I thought about rejamming myself or, in case of a TIMJ discovery, the original jammer. But that turned out to be much too cumbersome, so I'm just trying to jam a different song or repeat myself and hope for forgiveness from the audience...
what a fabulous review, @AlicejustMay *doffs cap in respect*. I really like this album *and* he's part of an increasingly top-drawer line-up at Field Day next year
I was listening while on another page and though ooooh, orgasmic - then re-started it and 2 people were at it live knives. In a car park. But looks more like voices in the head as it goes on ..
@AlicejustMay Yes it makes sense. I always have to stroke the colour blue if it's a certain shade. It makes me cry as well!! I'll get the straight jacket. Wonderful music though.
@AlicejustMay I love Bonobos, they are our (we humans) closest relative. I took my 2 daughters to see them at Twycross Zoo last year and we happily spent 20 minutes being near them.
P.S Bonobo the artist also very good.
@d0minic@AlicejustMay Even if Bono is our closest relative I still wouldn't invite him over for Christmas. What if he tries to climb the Christmas tree?
@d0minic No, I haven't. I always think of crying at the colour blue 'The Mattisse Effect' (Pseuds Corner!!) because the blue glass windows in his chapel cause this most dramatically. Is the film about mad bints crying at colour??
@d0minic I don't feel enlightened, but I did give Wikipedia a fiver...can I bill you? :) Unless you were referring to the colours in this film? The director of '3 Colours etc' said that if funded by a different country, the colours would have had different meanings, i.e. they were random.
@AlicejustMay Just rushed back from listening to this on ipod, to ask if the film and music were imagined together, as this film is so incredible, can't shake it off. Brilliantly acted, too.
@alisonsghost Isn't it just? In answer to your question, the director Tom Haines sys: “Jon's music has a transportive quality, which can be blissful and expansive, but can also be internal, and more aggressive, and Collider is at this end of the spectrum. We wanted to create an internal journey, which was unflinching, singular and claustrophobic and at the same time liberating...
The video is like a voodoo ceremony, where the lead character dances herself into frenzy, and through the dance gains access to a parallel dimension; it's her unfurling thoughts, her dislocated mind, and hints at something more apocalyptic - an end game for her and us.”
@AlicejustMay I missed your comment about a voodoo ceremony. It looks as if she might have brought the blood back from the underworld with her... Thanks to you, I'm now completely addicted to this track :)
@thisismymistake Having been the sig. other of a research scientist for many years, I know that what he has to say in the Guardian article is completely true. Since researchers were made to take on huge teaching loads too, those papers have got skimpier and skimpier. Isn't it known as the Hadron Particle Collider, btw?

Which really means he should get together with Nick Cave and record a new version of Higgs Boson Blues... (Also #instrumental #bestof2013)
Olimite
Awesome. Really need to give this album some more time.

@thisismymistake @d0minic I must take some time to think of my choices of #bestof2013 - though what do I do if I've already jammed some of them?
AlicejustMay
Impressed you remember, @simonp - Open Eye Signal would definitely be in my 'best of' list. Really pleased you liked it so much.

@d0minic yeah I Jammed that too. Had a superb video. Still not seen the film though!

@AlicejustMay Re: sensory thing, wow, let me contemplate that for a minute...
d0minic
like @thisismymistake I'll try to jam different tracks from choice #bestof2013 albums.
simonp
...but I'm not sure I've experienced an actual bodily sensation. Not even a violent reaction to Bono..
d0minic
@simonp don't get me started on fecking Bono
AlicejustMay
@simonp @d0minic Be funny to find out Bonobo was Bono's alter ego.
simonp
It's amazing how many people suffer from Tourette's as soon as his name is mentioned @d0minic. Sorry for lowering the tone @AlicejustMay.

@alisonsghost Have you seen Three Colours: Blue?

@d0minic No, I haven't. I always think of crying at the colour blue 'The Mattisse Effect' (Pseuds Corner!!) because the blue glass windows in his chapel cause this most dramatically. Is the film about mad bints crying at colour??

@d0minic @thisismymistake @alisonsghost @Niels_Footman Waah! I want to join in this conversation and I can't until I've hit my deadlines! Don't go away!
alisonsghost
@thisismymistake He can't be. Anyway, Bonobos are a matriarchy. The women, well, chimps are in chardge. Or women chimps.
alisonsghost
God, I'm illiterate...@d0minic I'll do that, thanks.
simonp
@d0minic @d0minic @alisonsghost @thisismymistake I used to buy trousers from New York's Bonobos (http://www.bonobos.com/). Can't quite see the link between matriarchal chimps and pants but there you go.
AlicejustMay
Thanks, @Niels_Footman!
alisonsghost
@simonp mummy chimps provide clothes?? Just to willfully misunderstand the meaning of matriarchy.
alisonsghost
@AlicejustMay Have your deadlines been hit? I bought this album then fell asleep so that messed up my working day.

One of my favourite albums of the year.

@simonp @AlicejustMay @d0minic @alisonsghost I'd say a bit of chimpy matriarchy would help U2 immensely...

Thanks, Alice. JUST missed the chance to reply on my page, as I switched up my jam in tribute to The Man, Nelson Mandela.

Wow... the beat is addictive. Love your description of music with all its textures and layers. The video is a masterpiece.

Bloody hell... the bird in this vid is like Peter Griffin after one too many Red Bulls.
