Steve wrote this about his wifes relationship with Rod Stewart (whom Steve hated) - and Rod eventually took his band as well, and they became The Faces. Great jam!
Im not sure that Rod "stole" the faces from SM I thought Steve left because he wanted to work with Peter Frampton and didnt like the Popular music direction that the Small Faces were heading.
And of course if he hadnt left we would never have heard Humble Pie :)
@Sid_Bonkers You're probably right, but I think there were lots of reasons for the Small Faces breakup. Laine and Marriott didn't get on, drugs were involved and his wife's infidelity with Rod was just the icing on the cake
@lynn200 It's not just @decarter who thinks this , or something like it, I'd never heard anything about them except the name before joining TIMJ! When I heard them on here, I fell in love. So that makes 2 of us who are idiots....:) More generally, Rod Stewart is a great big pimple on the earlobe of music!
@alisonsghost idiot is Not a word for anyone....just stating...the 60s were the Small Faces....i have learnt such a lot of new music on timj, but i was not an idiot for not knowing it,,,just away from Western music @decarter...i think you were included in this comment, not sure why....words got a bit a bit heavy...no need.
@lynn200 ....We have our wires crossed - that was a just a joke about all the things I never knew before coming on here! I'd never call anyone an idiot seriously & I included @decarter because I agreed with him, as I say above. (He's also pretty used to my sense of humour!) On music TV programmes etc. they tend to be mentioned in passing as a band that spawned other bands rather than being focused on in their own right. I fell in love with them the 1st jam I heard and have listened since.
@lynn200 In fact, I feel quite offended when I was agreeing with you both! But that'll wear off very quickly :) I'm very sorry to have upset you though, even if it was innocently.
@decarter @lynn200@alisonsghost I think you are all singing from the same hymn sheet despite appearing to disagree. I think what Lynn was saying was that the Small Faces were big in their day - and only us youngsters think they were underrated :-) (youngsters lol) and I have to admit that I did like Rod in his early Faces days, though he's worked really hard to erode my liking since those times. Never mind, I used to like the New Seekers when I was really young!
@lynn200 My dad used to teach Rod Stewart. Absolutely loved him :) I do like the songs 'Maggie May' & 'You wear it Well'....Forgotten that. @BarneyRubble Your comment is totally right. That's what I took everything to mean. But I think it may have been my phrasing that was clumsy. I could start WW3 armed with a pen!
